Following a series of design studies and an evaluation of the merits of each of the studies, Design Study 5 was favoured as it was felt it met the broader aspirations for the scheme and responded more readily and easily to the topography of the site.
This design study has been developed further to explore in greater detail the design objectives.
At this initial design development stage it is felt the design approach set down below begins to meet the following objectives:-
The retention of open views towards the dome of the Church.
Retention of the landscape.
The retention of the pedestrian paths.
The incorporation of a series of landscaped courtyards within the scheme.
A scheme that is both cohesive whilst at the same time achieving a degree of separation and privacy between the differing and varied needs of the occupants of
Responds respectfully to the setting of the Church and Retreat.
Introduces a building form that corresponds to the site topography and the character of the surrounding streets.
